Walsall 3rds produced a match winning performance last Saturday to complete a remarkable perfect season, winning all nine of their Staffordshire League One South matches. This latest victory, over one of their nearest challengers, saw the team score over four hundred points as they secured the league championship. Captain Chris Lister’s squad contains a mixture of younger and experienced players who have shown a committed approach since their first match at the start of their season in September last year. They scored eight tries on this occasion. Simon Peakman scored four, brother Peter two. Richard Wilson and Roger Weston scored one apiece. Weston kicked a penalty and three conversions. A mention of the visitor’s Will Leaver. He beat the home defence as he made a fifty yards try scoring run. The Walsall 3rd team, will now be presented with the league trophy. Meanwhile, they will commit themselves to be involved in the end of season cup competitions.
