Walsall visited Camp Hill for their first game following a number of cancellations for waterlogged pitches. The game was split into thirds. The pitch was firm but muddy on a bright sunny day. Walsall managed to exert a lot of pressure on Camp Hill in the opening session. The scrummage was strong with good body positions and passing along the back line showed real improvement. We did manage to get over the line but the ball was lost in the act of scoring. This gave Camp Hill a boost and they ran the length of the field to score, despite the best efforts of the Walsall players to tackle the powerful runner. The home side repeated the feat not long after. A third was then added. Walsall focussed on ball retention in the ruck in the remainder of the game and this paid dividends with two good tries. The commitment from the team was tremendous, with a number of players showing new found confidence in running with the ball and making tackles. The home side were held at bay for the rest of the game as the visitors tried hard for a third try. A thoroughly enjoyable game where the players gave their best performance to date.
