The Walsall management will be disappointed with their team’s performance in their latest Midlands Regional Two match. The team had played well for the first forty minutes and were still holding on to a slender lead as they moved into the final quarter. But, at times, they were guilty of failing to hold on to their tackles and failing to deliver some crucial passes. However, the visitors had established an early lead as captain Adam Nunney put over a penalty from thirty metres. The hosts displayed some good ball retention skills as they opened the scoring with a try by the corner flag. The visitors made a quick response with Nunney making a good run and linking up with Ben Pitt. The outside half made good ground before finding Callum Hoy in support. The Walsall lock forward made a strong twenty metre run to touchdown under the posts with Nunney adding the conversion. Lee put over a penalty for the hosts, before Nunney added two well struck penalties before the half time whistle.
The half came to a close, however, when a loose Walsall kick gave the hosts the opportunity to put together a try scoring counter attack with Lee adding the conversion.
Walsall started the second half with a real purpose and put together some very effective phases of play. These led to further indiscipline by the hosts which resulted in Nunney converting two penalties from nearly forty metres. The final quarter should have resulted in further scores for the visitors, but opportunities were squandered and a dropped ball denying them a possible try. It was the hosts that managed to secure the winning scores. A strong drive from a lineout and an interception of a Walsall pass, saw them score two tries with Lee adding the final conversion.
