Walsall, on another visit to Nottinghamshire, produced a strong performance after the interval which saw them gain a maximum points victory against a hard-working Paviours team. The opening ten minutes saw the hosts put together several powerful attacks, and credit must be given to the Walsall team that defended superbly. The visitors were rewarded for their defensive commitment with the first score of the game after fifteen minutes. Callum Hoy secured the lineout possession which was followed by a strong drive by the rest of his forwards. The ball was moved quickly by the Walsall backs. Fly half Ben Pitt, found Hansen Christoffersen with a well delivered pass. The young full back broke through the Paviours defence from twenty-five metres with Pitt adding the conversion. But within two minutes the hosts levelled the scores. Fly half Billam made a strong defence breaking run for a touchdown under the Walsall posts and then added the conversion. The hosts continued to display some very good ball retention skills. This approach saw them take the lead after they managed to win the ball on the Walsall lineout throw. They then kept the ball until full back Molyneux crossed for the try which Billam converted. He then added a penalty to give his team a ten points advantage just before the interval. But with the last play of the half, the visitors managed to take an opposition lineout throw. They kept possession until the referee awarded them a penalty which Pitt converted from thirty-five metres.
The second half did not start well for Walsall as the hosts scored the first try after Flangan made the touchdown following a strong drive from a lineout with Billam adding another conversion. Five minutes later Pitt started the Walsall fight back. He showed good speed as he cut through the home defence from twenty metres after good ball carries by Liam Taylor, Corbon Clarke -Selby and Quade Boal. The fly half also added the conversion. The visitors were playing some of their best rugby of game. Possession was secured and, crucially, retained. Pitt looked to run at the home defence and found Callum Hoy in support. The Walsall lock forward used his strength and speed to breakthrough the home defence for a try. It was a similar pattern of play during the final ten minutes. Pitt kicked a penalty to give his team the lead. This was then followed by centre Dan Carpenter making a fine line break for a try with Pitt adding the final conversion. A pleasing victory for Walsall against a strong Paviors team.
